The 740ES Commercial is the up-level recumbent in ProForm's exercise bike lineup, with a lot of nice features at an affordable price. With plenty of built in workouts, adjustability and internet access, it is a good choice in the price category.
The 740ES features a 7" full-color touch screen with web browser included, so you can browse the web, watch movies or chat with your friends while you workout. It also provides your heart rate, calories, resistance level, speed, time and distance.
Let's take a look at some of the specs....
UPDATE: It looks like the 740 ES recumbent has been discontinued, leaving only the ProForm 440 ES in the series. Check that one out to see if it has what you're looking for.
The ProForm 740 ES has been well received as it gives you a lot of features and capabilities at a very affordable price. At only around $799 when it is on sale, you get a durable bike with iFit technology, built in internet, a touch screen, 34 professional training programs and plenty of adjustability to bring your rides closer to that outdoor experience.
In case you're not familiar with it, iFit is ICON Fitness' (parent company of ProForm) unique package that gives you additional workouts, tracking and motivational features and perhaps most appealingly, the ability to use Google maps to plot a course anywhere in the world and watch in unfold right in front of you. (You can see what it looks like in the picture above.)
One of the major differences between the 740 ES and the entry level 440 ES recumbent bike is the fact that it has a 7" touch screen that is web-enabled. The 440 ES has a basic backlit display.
The 740ES has also has a heavier 20 lb. flywheel which makes your ride smoother and quieter, adjustable seat, large pedals with straps, 26 resistance levels, iPod compatibility, a 3 piece crank for durability and freewheel clutch that enhances circular motion.
As far as additional comfort features and extras, you get transport wheels, a built in tablet holder, water bottle holder and a workout fan, as well as adjustable feet to keep the bike stable.
Any negatives that we found during our review? Not really...at this price the 740ES gives you plenty to work with. An annual membership is required for iFit but it's only about $99 per year and well worth the price.
It is not the most impressive recumbent bike we have come across, but as far as a value bike it's very hard to beat.
We like both of the recumbent bikes from ProForm, simply because they will more than satisfy all but the most demanding riders. Of the two, we definitely prefer the 740ES over the base 440ES model because the 440ES does not have a web-enabled touchscreen, so not only can you not access the internet but in order to use the iFit maps you need to use your own tablet.
The 740ES also has a heavier flywheel and more built in workouts. So for an additional $200 it is well worth it for the additional features.
ProForm continues to pack in a lot of features at affordable prices and for that reason we believe th 740ES recumbent is a good choice for the home user.
